The river still plays an important place in
the lives of people, but in the days prior to easy access to the
seaside, swimming pools, playgrounds and packaged food, the river
was even more important in the lives of people living in it's
vicinity. It was where those with an inclination learnt
how to swim. Boating was not only a means of exercise but
together with the use of coracles and nets a means of stocking
the larder. The river banks also provided willow for baskets,
fish and game birds for the table. |
